On Kilimanjaro, a fight about tea time exposed twenty-three years of over-functioning in my marriage — and the difference between being counted on and choosing to show up.
I worked with a parent coach/therapist who advised me to look at specific behaviors of mine as a parent with my oldest child and determine whether they are accommodations or supports. Accommodations are things I do to make life easier for other people when they should be doing it for themselves - similar to you handling things for Marc on your hike. It was excellent advice for me as a parent, and I've also been able to use it when I look at my interactions and behaviors with friends, extended family members, and just being out in the world.
Damn, Jill. This is so spot on and not because we have the same name. ;-)
I'm so lucky to have you as a friend. We've both been through some things and I'm thankful that you've been there since that 1st meeting way back in January, 2003.

This resonated quite a bit! Good suggestions!
Thanks, Julie! Always appreciate your comments and engagement on these posts. Let me know how they work for you if you give them a go!
Spot on for many of us. My friends and I often discuss the mental load of motherhood...
Kind of like what we discussed on your episode of What She Taught Me, right?
Oh boy, this hits home and likely will for almost all women everywhere.
Yeah, there's probably a few more posts on this topic that I could write.
