I love so much about this story, coach! One of my biggest takeaways was about having patience with your own abilities and with the process. The way you worked your way up to the NYC marathon was methodical and relentless. This is a huge inspiration for me as I never feel like I’m progressing fast enough.
My clients inspire me daily to be creative, which also helps me when I am making decisions for myself. One of the things I have focused on during this hip recovery (because I wasn't moving fast enough - for me - ahem) was using one small metric to indicate improvement. In this case, it was my pain level when putting on a pair of pants. Was it lessening overall on a day to day, week to week basis? That kept me grounded and reduced my frustration.
A great post, Jill! Thanks for sharing your journey and encouraging us to remember there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to exercise and care . . . and brava on all you've achieved!
Thank you! It's definitely individual in terms of what works for you but it doesn't have to be solo. Mine may not have been linear but it made me appreciate the good times when things really clicked!
So inspired by this and grateful to you for sharing it with your trademark candor and no-BS style. Learned some new things about your journey as well - massive kudos to you and thank you for shepherding others on their Go Long path!
Wow. Never knew about the breast reduction or most of this. What a journey indeed. You are definitely going long!!
That's the goal! It's your life. Go the distance. Go Long!
