FFS: Have You Met Dr. Dismissive Yet?
Challenge: Substitute out something in your workout regimen for something fun.
Client Win This Week
“Really digging the audio book thing before bed. Sleep improved a lot. Me not cranky when I get up.”
Go Long in the Wild!
This week, Kieran Snyder, co-founder and former CEO of Textio, wrote about her burnout story. She talked about her 4 lessons learned:
Say no.
Do stuff just for fun.
Do stuff just for fun, at work.
Recognize that it isn't just going to get better next month.
Of all of the things that I stress to Go Long clients, #4 is the most challenging point to get across. There is always going to be something that will fill the time once you get past whatever crunch time you are dealing with. That leads to #1 - saying no.
Just because you free up time in your schedule doesn’t mean you need to fill it up with something else! Take a breath and assess what you truly need to be spending time on, which could also mean doing ‘nothing’.
If you’ve been following on the socials this week, it has been all about Dr. Dismissive. He represents a caricature of what many women over 40 experience when they go to the doctor's office while experiencing menopause symptoms. The lovely human playing the role of Dr. Dismissive is really a software engineer posing as an actor playing a doctor. 🤷🏻♀️😂

Why Not Make Your Workout Fun?
This week, I covered how making your workouts fun and engaging can help keep you motivated. Friends of Go Long shared their perspectives on pickleball and Zumba, and why they love them so much.
One friend noted, "You don't have to be a phenomenal athlete to be good at pickleball. You need strategy, patience, and instinct. I lose all the time to people who are less athletic and have much less muscle mass than myself. It's super accessible, exciting, and thrilling given how small the court is. I love the fast-moving nature of it, and the fact that 80-year-olds can kick my ass."
Myth Monday
This week’s ‘Myth Monday’ covered the chasm between how men are treated when visiting the doctor’s office versus everyone else. This was a major theme for Go Long this week. See links above!
Challenge of the Week
Think about something fun you can incorporate into your workout routine and substitute it for something you do regularly that maybe isn’t bringing you as much joy these days. For me, I discovered hula hooping when I had my hip replacement surgery a few years back. My PT assigned it as part of my rehab, and when I’m not into doing my usual cardio warm-up, I’ll whip that out and hoop around for a few minutes.
Thank you for spending time with Go Long. Your feedback and comments are always welcomed and appreciated.
Have a great weekend!
