FFS: Are you 'storing and ignorning'?
Challenge: How many boxes are you checking on the burnout checklist?
Client Win This Week
“Nailed 2 different interview loops this week! The focus on being more selective and mindful where I am applying has helped a lot!”
Go Long in the Wild!
In spite of a kidney stone this week, I’m still trying to complete a 31-day challenge of getting outside for 10+ minutes within 15 minutes of waking up. The goal is to see if it improves my sleep. Today is day #10 and my sleep has improved a little bit.
If you’re joining in, how is it going for you? Comment or DM me.
Luke Russert was on “Morning Joe” this week talking about how he dealt with his father’s death (Tim Russert of “Meet the Press”) in his early to mid 20s. He used a catchy phrase that encapsulated what a lot of us do when we deal with traumatic situations - “Store and ignore”. I touched upon it a bit on LinkedIn this week on how that approach leads to burnout.
Talking about Burnout 101
Thanks again for the feedback on last month’s series on my personal experiences with burnout. This month, it’s about ‘Burnout 101’ - in other words, what it is and what it is not?
The thing about burnout is that the sneakiest aspect of burnout is that you may think you are just experiencing it in one area of your life but it is actually pervasive throughout all aspects of your life. For example, you could be experiencing feelings of burnout at work and what will happen is that the anxiety there will influence other aspects of your life. It’s going to impact your relationships with the people who matter most in your life and it will certainly affect your relationship with yourself. This is especially true for women in midlife.
Myth Monday
This week’s Myth Monday discusses how hotel rooms, which should be geared towards helping you get a good night’s sleep, do the opposite. Have a watch/listen.
Challenge of the Week
Take a look at the below set of bullets and assess how many of these items you check off:
Decreased Achievement: The harder you try to get out of the hole, the more you sink.
Emotional Exhaustion: You might feel drained and unable to cope, with emotional reserves feeling depleted.
Physical Rebellion: Let’s refer to this as your body telling you “to be nicer to it because it doesn’t come with a return policy.”
Loss of Purpose: This is better known as “going through the motions.”
Detachment: You may know this as the “I have zero fucks to give” mindset.
Negativity or Cynicism: It may feel like “trust no one” is the only mindset to have at this juncture in your life.
This isn’t an all-inclusive list but you get the idea. If you’re looking to change the game for yourself so you can take back control of your life, book a call now.
Thank you for spending time with Go Long. Your feedback and comments are always welcomed and appreciated.
Have a great weekend!
Very grateful for your help and counsel!
